Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 October 2026

Code Temper (codetemper.com) is a free platform for learning programming. This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use it, why, and what rights you have. We keep it short and collect as little as possible.

1. Who is responsible

The controller of your personal data is Adrian Cojocaru, an individual based in Romania. Contact: [email protected].

2. Using Code Temper without an account

You can use every lesson without an account. Your progress, drafts, and settings are then stored only in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.

3. If you create an account

Accounts are optional and let you keep your progress on several devices. We then process:

  • Account data: your email address, a securely hashed password (if you sign up with email), and the display name you choose.
  • GitHub sign-in data: if you sign in with GitHub, we receive your GitHub username, name, profile picture link, and email address from GitHub. We do not get access to your repositories.
  • Learning progress: completed lessons and challenges, XP, check-in results, daily activity, bookmarks, your learning path settings, and the code drafts you write in lessons.
  • Technical and security data: sign-in times, IP address, and browser information recorded in authentication logs to keep accounts secure.

Legal basis: providing the account you asked for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

4. Who helps us run the service

We use a few trusted providers that process data on our behalf:

  • Supabase — account sign-in and the database storing your progress. Data is hosted in the European Union (Ireland).
  • Cloudflare — hosts and delivers the website. Like any web host, it processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect against attacks.
  • Resend — sends account emails such as confirmation and password reset messages.
  • GitHub — only if you choose "Continue with GitHub".
  • jsDelivr and cdnjs — the Python and SQL engines are downloaded from these public code networks the first time you run Python or SQL code. Your browser connects to them directly, so they see your IP address. Your code is not sent to them; it runs in your browser.

Some of these providers may process data outside the EU. Where that happens, they rely on safeguards approved by the European Commission, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. Cookies and local storage

Code Temper does not use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. We only use your browser's local storage for things that are strictly necessary: saving your progress and, if you sign in, keeping you signed in. Because this storage is essential for the service you request, no consent banner is needed.

6. How long we keep data

Your account and progress are kept until you delete your account. Security logs are kept only for a short period by our providers. After deletion, your data is removed from the live database right away and disappears from backups as they are routinely replaced.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, or delete your data, receive a copy of it, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw any consent. You can change your display name and delete your account at any time from the workspace menu (the avatar in the top-right corner). For anything else, write to [email protected]; we answer within one month.

You also have the right to complain to the Romanian data protection authority, ANSPDCP (dataprotection.ro), or the authority in your own EU country.

8. Children

If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account. You can always use the lessons without an account.

9. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above. Important changes will be announced on the site.

Made for curious minds. One line at a time.
